Description
This artifact is a silver cross that pre-dates the 1692 earthquake in Port Royal, Jamaica. It was found in the rubble along the pre-existing boundary of the city prior to the disaster. This cross was brought into Port Royal on a Spanish galleon prior to the earthquake. After that moment in 1692 she rested amongst the debris for over 250 years.
The salvager was David Davis who was a former U.S. Navy diver at the time that found the object in the rubble of an old stone building along the shoreline that fell into the harbor. The artifact was found in 1952.
This silver cross measures in height 2 13/16" x width 1 13/16" and thickness of 1/16".
