Description

This artifact is a small bowl/vase found on the Hoi An Hoard shipwreck site 22 miles south of Vietnam in the South China Sea.  This ship was a very large cargo vessel carrying porcelain ceramics and sank to a depth of 230 feet in the late 15th Century.  The wreck was recently discovered by fishermen in the 1990's and small portion have been salvaged ever since.

This bowl measures 2.8 inches in height, 3.25 inches in width, and 0.75 inches in diameter at the opening.  This bowl is covered in encrustation from being submerged for nearly 500 years.  You can see some of the flower-style pattern near the opening on top of the vase.
